Food Trends

Current food trends seem to swing between embracing sustainability or complete indulgence!

While on one end of the spectrum, some take away outlets are making moves to provide nutritious food in reusable containers, such as jars, instead of disposable plastic or cardboard containers. The jar trend is taking off in New York in particular, with several different venues offering their own take on it.

At the other end of the scale, there are restaurants providing a truly rich experience. And by that, we mean using gold and diamonds in their food!

A restaurant in California is serving steaks with gold flake garnishing. Dinner there costs between $620-$750AU per person. But if you think that’s extravagant, Selfridges in London is selling a $165AU ice cream that features edible diamonds and gold flakes in its toppings.

Far from adding taste, these extras a purely for show and for the social media photos. On the bright side, they can make up for it with a healthy and sustainable meal the next day.
