We’re into a new financial year and that means the depths of the quietest time of year for most Australian hospitality businesses. EOFY corporate events are over, and around most of the country it is cold and people are staying indoors – until spring season kicks in and then it is non-stop until the end of the year. We’ve also entered a period of financial uncertainty with the close results from the election.
What can you do to try and maximise your quiet time?
Don’t underestimate the power of “EOFY Sales” mentality on consumers. There is still an opportunity to put out some offers in July, and pick up some spontaneous business from those who have just filed their tax returns. Consumers are on the lookout for a great deal and are ready to spend a little more than usual and treat themselves. The hype is similar to the Boxing Day sales – but without everyone having blown their budgets already on Christmas presents for friends and family.
Some ideas for promotions that make a play on tax time or recent politics
-
Offer a “tax free” dinner or overnight stay – i.e. a 10% discount which deducts the GST amount -
Serve a basket of only ‘left’ or only ‘right’ side chicken wings… -
Instead of a straight discount, partner with a charity and make a portion of the bill a tax deductible donation -
Set up a tasting paddle of drinks meant to represent various politicians tastes. You could set up 2 sets of tasters to represent the 2 major parties or more.
