Hotels Vs Airbnb

The travel industry can be divided into two parts; the people who love to indulge in the lavish aspects of hotel living and those who want to throw down their bags and explore their destination. There is nothing quite like a freshly made white bed and room service. There is also nothing quite like walking into an old Airbnb living next to some locals in Spain. Who is to say which is better? Hotel trends will forever fluctuate; nonetheless there are a few things we predict to see in 2019.

Technology; like it or not, you probably use it. Whether you’re in an Airbnb or a 5-star hotel, you want Wi-Fi and you want it fast. The hotel industry is one we see utilising technology advancements often. Guests love simplicity when they are on holidays. Lost your key? Don’t worry, use your mobile, need to contact a loved one or look up somewhere to eat? No worries, we have great Wi-Fi! Many hotel technology advancements we will see more commonly in 2019 will include, self-check-in, fixed-mobile merging (controlling your room from your smart phone), artificial intelligence like robot butlers, virtual reality experiences and who knows what else!

In terms of style, we will see a bright and bold approach to décor; similar to what was seen in this year’s fashion week in Milan. Multi-coloured interior everything could either be brilliant or a disaster.  We will see more natural elements added to rooms. Plants and lighting will be of the most popular. A more natural vibe will make guests feel more comfortable and relaxed.

Airbnb isn’t going anywhere in the industry. It becomes a home away from home for many. It gives you the versatility of your own privacy and space but also gives you the opportunity to live like a local. Millennials love the Airbnb craze as travel is such a big part of their lives. We will see even more growth in this industry and the increase in extraordinary rooms. Some absolutely spectacular options on Airbnb include, gypsy wagons, castles, windmills, ranches, pirate ships, treehouses, old school buses and even Houdini’s house!

Australia will be seeing many new hotels going up in 2019-2020. The Marriot will debut its Element brand in Richmond, Melbourne, offering 168 light-filled guestrooms. Intercontinental Hotel Group have also set their sights for 2019 with the production of Hotel Indigo on La Trobe Street, Melbourne. W Hotels will open up their second property in Sydney. The Ribbon will be a modern 5-star hotel offering serviced apartments and an IMAX theatre!

We love the ever changing industry that is hospitality and tourism. The growth is phenomenal and one of the most innovative industries there is.
